Declan had his first food today! He turns 6 months next week and is completely acting ready. We started with millet. I like millet as a first food because it is actually a seed and low allergen. It's a mild flavor too. He swallowed well and seemed to enjoy it!
Trying to frugally raise 4 children, 2 cats, 6 rabbits, and a flock of chickens. No labels, just an attempt at common sense parenting.

Big Boy!
Declan is at the stage where every time you put him down he
rolls on to his stomach, gets stuck and super mad. Drives me crazy! He’s growing so fast. I just had to sort through all of his
clothes. He’s 5 ½ months and he is
wearing 9 month and 12 month clothes!
The 6 month clothes are too tight!
9 month fit him perfectly and 12 month is a little baggy, but not in a
crazy amount. It’s so strange to me
because all of my kids have always been on the small side or just perfectly in
their age sizes. He’s my big boy!

Moving Chickens
Last night we went down in the pitch dark to move the pullets
from the rabbit pen where they were living temporarily to the chicken coop with
the adult hens. They are easier to catch when sleepy and the adult hens might
accept them better if they just wake up and they are there. To our surprise we
found half of them roosting way up in the tree! There is no way we could reach
them. We moved the ones we could but had to leave those 7 to be moved in the morning!
Crazy Chickens! |
All the chickens are now in the coop. However I did
manage to clothesline myself with rope and twist my ankle chasing them. Did I
mention Claire and I were running around in our pajamas, boots and coats?
Stupid beeping, beeping chickens. THAT is why I decided to move them at night.
